How to Make the Ambrosial Gold Star Tonic

Gold Star Cocktail

Bar and Spirits Director Antoine Hodge shares his recipe for the Gold Star Tonic champagne cocktail, guaranteed to warm up any cold winter’s night.

"The Gold Star Tonic is an interpretation of a Penicillin cocktail using aged Cachaça, Drambuie, and cardamom, along with the traditional ingredients of lemon, ginger, and honey."

Recipe

1.5 oz. Avua Jequitiba Rosa Cachaça (or any brand of Brazilian Cachaça)
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
.75 oz. ginger juice
.5 oz. Drambuie
.25 oz. Cardamon Honey
2 dashes Cardamon bitters
Rinse (optional) Laphroaig

Method

Add all ingredients, shake hard, and pour into a Laphroaig-rinsed glass.
Garnish with dried kumquat and bee pollen (optional).

Recommended Pairing

"Pan de Quijo is a fluffy, cheesy bread that would be perfect to pair with the Gold Star and its Brazilian spirit base, Cachaça. I love this Brazilian-style French toast served with cardamom honey, mascarpone, bee pollen crumble, and kumquat jam.”
